During MIPIM international exhibition Krasnodarsky Krai Administration and M-INDUSTRY Group signed the agreement regarding cooperation in order to improve environmental conditions in the region of Island construction. According to the agreement the parties shall develop an activities plan to maintain ecological balance and improve ecological situation on the Black sea coast of Krasnodarsky Krai. Best experts in environmental protection will be involved to develop the activities program.

According to the achieved agreement, the Krai Administration will provide its recommendations targeted to improve the ecological situation in the region of Federation Island project construction and take an active part in environmental activities performed by M-INDUSTRY. For its part M-INDUSTRY Group undertakes to meet the requirements regarding environmental protection during the Island construction and development and to inform the Administration and the public of Krasnodarsky Krai on the measures taken to improve the ecological situation in the Federation Island area.
In order to estimate the project influence on the environment, the contamination processes of sea water and bottom as well as sea currents system were studied. Under the supervision of Nikolay Yesin, the Academician of the Russian Ecological Academy, an environmental concept has been developed for Federation Island which will help to improve the ecological situation in the Island construction area.
The document implies activities to protect the marine environment from contamination during the Island construction and operation. The Island reclamation process will be supervised by an established environmental monitoring committee that will allow to manage the marine environment status in the Island area.

After the Island construction is completed it will be provided with facilities for cleaning residential waste water and storm runoffs. The cleaned water will be discharged into the sea at a 4km distance from the coast. Besides, the storm runoffs from the mainland coast opposite the Island will also be cleaned. Due to these measures the volume of contaminating substances discharged into the sea will be significantly less than it is now.
After the project realization stage there will be constructed about 70 kilometers of sand beaches. Moreover, sand beaches will also be provided on the coast opposite the Island. In the wave shadow of the Island the beaches will not be washed out unlike the existing ones.
On July 9, 2008 the Administration of Sochi Central District held public hearings regarding the project execution. The reports were made by Grigory Usychenko, Vice President of “Federation Island” Management company, Nikolay Yesin, the President of NIA URAMEM , Vladimir Kalaev, Chief Engineer of the project, and representatives of administrations of Sochi and Krasnodarsky Krai as well as representatives of public and environmental organizations.
